Mr Men Cookbook: Week 9 Mr Bounce's Cherry Buns

A bit late this one what with our week of the lurgy last week, but things are back to (relatively) normal today so Squidge and I thought we'd make the next recipe from the Mr Men Cookbook: Mr Bounce's Cherry Buns.

We started by washing and drying (I don't know why, but the recipe said so!) about eight or nine glacĂ© cherries and chopping them into small pieces.
Then Squidge weighed out 4oz of self raising flour and sifted it into the mixing bowl. He added 2oz of margarine (the recipe called for hard margarine but we just had normal) and rubbed it into the flour with his fingers.
Then he broke an egg into a cup...

...and beat it.
He added 2oz of caster sugar to the mixing bowl and stirred it in along with the chopped cherries.

Then he added the egg bit by bit to the mixing bowl until he had a thick mixture (he ended up using about two thirds of the small egg), and spooned it into ten mounds onto a greased baking tray.

He put it in the oven on Gas Mark 6 for about fifteen minutes. And here they are!

They ended up more like cookies than buns, but we suspect that was because of the margarine substitute. They were still pretty good!

Next week, Mr Topsyturvy's Upside Fown Pudding :)

  1. Thank you for posting this. I spent the whole weekend racking my brains as to where I'd heard the slogan "They don't bounce when you drop them". Suddenly it came to me, and a quick search later and your image above confirmed it. Happy baking!
