A Functional Glittery Peppermint Play Dough Piano and Other Explorations...

We're making rather a habit of this being at home lark now, and it's been unusual for us but fun nonetheless!

There's been napping...

...and much cooperative play in our new retro console zone (so much fun! We've dug out an NES, a PS1, a Sega Megadrive, and a SNES as well as the PS2 that was already there, so we're reminiscing while the children are playing)...

...plus squeals of excitement at the floor of bubblewrap I surprised Squidge with...

...aaaaannd, more napping :)

Squidge's favourite expression is currently, "I only jokin'!", which was apt again when he played a trick on me pretending he'd disappeared :D (I loved this idea so much!)

They all spent a good chunk of an afternoon making potions...

...and digging mummies out of sarcophogi and pirate treasure out of blocks of plaster.

The quest to declutter before we renovate continues, and Squidge has been loving helping...

...while Moppet bounces on the trampoline and pulls faces through the mesh :)

Inspired by a Facebook friend, we made some brownies with green mint icing, some rice crispie cakes, and some blue jelly, and then cut them all into cubes to be grass blocks, gravel blocks, and water. Cue: Edible Minecraft landscapes!

Squidge's scene...

...and Sprout's island :)

They were both very pleased with them :)

Following that, Moppet has discovered the wonders of the Nintendo DS and has been 'playing' Sonic (ie watching the intro while pressing the buttons)...

...then more napping with the cat for Squidge...

...and construction of Power Ranger armour from craft foam.

Squidge did some collage too, this is a creature with orange lasers fighting off little green bad guys :)

Meanwhile, Sprout's been designing a logo for his upcoming YouTube channel.

They've all spent a fair amount of time on the iPad too, playing with some really great apps!

Sprout and I have been working up the levels in Word Collapse...

...I found a Pokemon TV app that he was over the moon with...

...he's been enjoying The Sims FreePlay...

...*loving* Monopoly Hotels...

...building crazy contraptions again on Angry Pigs...

...being engrossed for hours with Molecules...

...breaking down and creating molecules and finding out about geology and photosynthesis on Possible Worlds: Ruby Realm...

...performing Appendix Surgery...

...being interested briefly by the Cells app (which is less dry than this screenshot suggests lol)...

...and just about freaked out with happiness when he saw I'd found a Pewdiepie app (while googling the link for here I've just found a Pewdiepie soundboard app so he's going to be doubly freaking out shortly :D ).

Squidge on the other hand, when not working his way through the different series of Power Rangers on Netflix has been engrossed in all the different Cut the Rope games...

...including the augmented reality Om Nom Candy Flick.

He's also rediscovered Pudding Monsters...

...and has caught the Sandbox bug from Sprout.

Moppet occasionally has a little play on there too, we tried out Baby Images, Baby Cats and Baby Aquatic...

...but her favourite is still the Cause and Effect Sensory Light Box.

The boys have been showing her the Duplo Zoo app too but she's not quite there yet!

Skylanders Giants has made a comeback too, it's amazing what happens when we rearrange the house :)

Squidge rediscovered our human anatomy model too and spent a good portion of an afternoon repeatedly taking it apart and putting it back together again. It was cool to see that when Sprout popped his head round the door he remembered what the organs were despite not having played with it in maybe a year or so, as he laughed at Moppet 'eating the liver'!

The X-rays that come with the model are fun too, and we had a nice sunny spell with which to best see them :)

There's been a lot of art-and-crafting too, like this collage Minecraft landscape by Squidge, depicting Gruff running from a lava flow...

...this 'cloud' for Gruff to keep his keys in...

...and this colourful eggbox and tissue paper caterpillar :)

Squidge was desperate for some play dough right now immediately no waiting today so instead of the usual cooked recipe I use I did this one instead, which worked out fabulously. We made it with peppermint essence and added glitter to half of it.

Sprout joined in and made this effigy of Stephano...

...while Squidge and I grabbed the Makey Makey and turned some into a glittery peppermint play dough piano!

After a few tunes we switched out the dough for some bananas, and musical fun was had!

The enthusiasm for keyboards continued unabated, so we got out this old one complete with exceedingly cheesy demo tune, which was played untilllllll.... nap. :)
